A well-known British Columbia (Canada) painter, draftsman and printmaker, Raymond Chow was born in and still lives in Vancouver. His works are in several museum collections including the Canadian Museum of History.

His mediums include oils, acrylics, watercolors, pen & ink, pencil, mixed mediums, and limited edition offset print lithography. His best known subjects are portraits, figures, nudes, still lifes, landscapes, interiors, gardens, children, domestic animals, marine scenes (boats, beaches, harbors), street scenes, city scenes, historic buildings, humor, sports (golf), and genre. His best known styles could be described as Naturalism* or Realism*; however, his oeuvre also includes Abstract Expressionism* and works that could be described as Surrealism*. Raymond Chow (1941)

A well-known British Columbia (Canada) painter, draftsman and printmaker, Raymond Chow was born in and still lives in Vancouver. His works are in several museum collections including the Canadian Museum of History.

His mediums include oils, acrylics, watercolors, pen & ink, pencil, mixed mediums, and limited edition offset print lithography. His best known subjects are portraits, figures, nudes, still lifes, landscapes, interiors, gardens, children, domestic animals, marine scenes (boats, beaches, harbors), street scenes, city scenes, historic buildings, humor, sports (golf), and genre. His best known styles could be described as Naturalism* or Realism*; however, his oeuvre also includes Abstract Expressionism* and works that could be described as Surrealism*. He graduated from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver in 1964 with a Bachelor of Education degree; however, he has been painting professionally since he was a teenager; and, by 18 he was represented by two of Vancouver’s most prominent commercial galleries, The Art Emporium and Harrison Galleries.

His travels include living in London, England for 10 months (c.1979) and several trips to Hawaii to paint.

His works have been featured in exhibitions at prominent commercial galleries such as The Archer & The Horseman Gallery, Vancouver; The Art Emporium, Vancouver; Harrison Galleries, Vancouver; Capulet Art Gallery, Richmond, B.C.; Hambleton Galleries, Kelowna; Downstairs Gallery, Winnipeg; Sobot Fine Art Gallery, Toronto; and, Thomas Beckett Gallery, Hamilton.

His works were also featured in the “34th British Columbia Annual Exhibition” at the Vancouver Art Gallery (1965 – 1966); and at the Canada House Gallery, Canadian High Commission (e.g. embassy), London, England (1971).

According to the Canadian Heritage Information Network* and individual museum sources, his works are in the permanent collections of the Burnaby Art Gallery (Burnaby, B.C.), the Canadian Museum of History (Gatineau, Quebec), and The Market Gallery (Toronto).

Chow’s honors include being selected in 1977 by the Royal Canadian Mint to design the British Columbia dollar coins commemorating the Chinese Yuan, Ching, Ming, Tang and Jung dynasties.
